The Ulusoy Lab (Parkinson’s Disease Pathology and Spatial Biology Group) at the DZNE in Bonn is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our dynamic and growing team. Our research focuses on deciphering the pathological mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease (PD), with a particular emphasis on oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neuroinflammation.
The position is initially limited to 18 months with the possibility of extension, offering the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects at the interface of fundamental and translational neuroscience.
Your role in detail
- Conduct independent and collaborative research using in vivo models of PD
- Apply and further develop methodologies such as disease modeling, virus-mediated gene delivery, behavior, immunohistochemistry, tissue clearing and 3D imaging, image analysis, spatial transcriptomics, and multiplex cyclic immunohistochemistry
- Analyze and interpret complex datasets, contributing to our understanding of PD pathology
- Present and publish findings in high-impact forums
- Collaborate within an interdisciplinary and international team, as well as with external partners.
Your qualifications
- PhD in neuroscience, biology, or a related discipline
- Solid experience in animal research, including rodent models and neuropathological or behavioral analyses
- Proficiency in image analysis using platforms such as QuPath, ImageJ/Fiji or comparable tools
- Experience with bioinformatics approaches
- Familiarity with advanced image analysis platforms integrating AI and machine learning pipelines
- Coding skills in Python or R for data processing and visualization is an asset
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Strong scientific writing and presentation skills Background in neuropathology and/or neuroinflammation (highly desirable)
- Familiarity with spatial biology techniques such as spatial transcriptomics and multiplex imaging
- Experience in writing and contributing to animal protocols and biosafety documentation (considered an asset)
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative data analysis and integrative approaches
- Strong motivation to work independently
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and international research environment
