W2 Professorship for Translational Biogerontology

is to be filled at the earliest opportunity as part of a joint appointment according to the Jülich model.

The candidate should have internationally recognized expertise in the fields of gerontology and neuroscience.

The research should concentrate on investigating pharmacological, nutritional, genetic, or immunotherapeutic interventions, including vaccinations, that aim to modulate biological aging mechanisms and investigate their influence on neurodegenerative diseases. Particular emphasis should be placed on taking into account differences between interventions that specifically target biological aging processes and those that mainly lead to symptomatic improvement. Aging processes should be thoroughly characterized at a molecular, cellular, and organismic level by using multidimensional phenotyping in various model organisms in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the processes.

The ideal candidate combines a strong publication record with proven success in securing external funding and extensive experience leading independent research teams. Teaching responsibilities in the fields of neuroscience and gerontology, the scientific supervision of employees, and interdisciplinary collaboration with partners from science and the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries are essential. Proven expertise in the comprehensive phenotyping of human or mouse models in connection with aging analyses is required. Experience in animal research or qualifications in the field of data science are an advantage. Close collaboration with the human cohort studies conducted by DZNE is expressly desired.

Close collaboration with other research networks and a connection to the research and clinical areas of expertise of the Faculty of Medicine, University Hospital Bonn, and other faculties of the University of Bonn are desirable.

The successful candidate holds a university degree in human medicine, biomedicine, or a related field, has completed a habilitation (or equivalent academic achievements), and meets

the teaching qualifications required by § 36 of the North RhineWestphalia Higher Education Act.
