PhD Student (f/m/x)
Code: 1348/2024/9
The group of Dr. Daniele Bano investigates molecular mechanisms associated with neurodegenerative diseases. We are interested to understand the genetic and non-genetic basis underlying the heterogeneous clinical manifestations associated with inherited mitochondrial lesions. Consistent with our previous published studies (see https://www.dzne.de/en/research/research-areas/fundamental-research/research-groups/bano/publications/), one goal is to identify disease modifiers that can counteract aberrant mitochondrial metabolism.
Your role in detail
The team is searching for a highly motivated and science-driven PhD student to study the cellular response to aberrant electron transport chain biogenesis and/or ATP synthase inhibition. Using a combination of cultured cells, yeast (in collaboration with Prof. Thomas Becker, Bonn) and Caenorhabditis elegans, the newly recruited team member will elucidate the mitochondrial complexome of mitochondrial mutant cells. Furthermore, s/he will investigate the compensatory metabolic rewiring that promote cell resilience and animal survival.
Your qualifications
We are searching for a doctoral candidate with a recent Master degree (or equivalent) and a background in experimental Life Science disciplines. The successful candidate has good communication skills, is a team player and has the commitment to comply with deadlines that are essential for the success of the study.
