Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/x)
We are interested in disorders associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, including metabolic syndromes and neurodegenerative diseases. Our work aims to investigate molecular mechanisms contributing to the “phenotypic threshold effect” of mitochondrial dysfunction. Using Caenorhabditis elegans as an in vivo model, we demonstrated the importance of chromatin remodeling (Piazzesi A. et al, 2016; Piazzesi A. et al, 2022) and metabolic rewiring (Piazzesi A. et al, 2022; Jackson J. et al, 2022) in the survival of animals carrying mitochondrial lesions. From our recently performed multi-omics and epistatic analyses, we will expand our work and explore signaling cascades that can convert “short-lived’ mitochondrial mutants in “long-lived” ones. As an additional effort, we will scale-up our investigation and test candidate processes in mitochondrial mutant iPSC-derived neurons.
The groundwork of this project builds on our previous cross-species studies (Meyer K. et al, 2015; Piazzesi A. et al, 2016; Wischhof L. et al, 2017; Wischhof L. et al, 2018; Gioran A. et al, 2019; Bertan F. et al, 2021; Piazzesi A. et al, 2022; Wischhof L. et al, 2022; Jackson J. et al, 2022; Wischhof L. et al, under revision). Apart from C. elegans, our laboratory employs additional in vitro and in vivo models (e.g., transgenic mice and human iPSCs) and state-of-the-art instruments of which the successful candidates will be able to take full advantage.
We are searching for a team player fully committed to the advertised project. Previous experience with C. elegans and/or iPSCs is considered a plus.
The project will develop over the initial 12-months-contract, with the concrete possibility to extend the postdoctoral experience for additional 2 years. Employees will acquire skills and knowledge for their scientific qualifications during their activities at the DZNE.
