The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a world-leading internationally oriented research center, committed to discovering new approaches to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases. To this end, researchers at ten DZNE sites across Germany pursue a translational and interdisciplinary strategy comprising five interconnected areas: fundamental research, clinical research, health care research, population health science, and systems medicine.

Software Support Consultant (f/m/x) - Document Management System (DMS)

The DZNE is an interdisciplinary research center, part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers and operates central IT services at its headquarters in Bonn, which provides the infrastructure and services for the entire research center distributed across ten locations in Germany, responding to the needs of scientists and administration.

The DZNE IT provides the IT infrastructure and services, based on leading edge technology, standard and innovative solutions, needed to support the work of DZNE scientists and administration. The resource management processes are hereby technically supported by the IT-systems SAP and P&I LOGA.  With the introduction of a Document Management System (DMS), the DZNE has moreover moved towards an increasingly efficient, transparent and paperless administration.

As the “Software Support Consultant”, you will work in the IT Department to operate and support the DMS d.3ecm system and its interfaces to the different systems within the DZNE.

You will take care of the smooth operations, maintenance, management, and evolution of the d.3ecm applications. Thanks to your deep understanding of the system, you will be able to maximize its effectiveness, addressing technical and functional aspects.

You will build the interface, between the IT world and the administrative key users, with a proactive and positive approach, devising the needed actions and working in project teams between the IT Department, software architects, integrators and key users from various departments in the administration area, to consolidate and enhance the digitalization of the administrative processes of the DZNE.

Your tasks

  • Receiving incoming service messages in IT support for the various applications (mainly document management system DMS).
  • Evaluating, categorizing, prioritizing and answering the requests
  • Analyzing, working out solutions to problems and, if possible, solving system-related and application-related problems/errors on the phone, by remote maintenance tool or on site (first and second level support) for the various applications.
  • Describing and forwarding problems that cannot be solved independently to the head of the work area or the manufacturers (third-level support), regularly informing the users about the current status of the process
  • Documenting enquiries and reports as well as their resolution
  • Participation in the planning, preparation and implementation of IT projects, software rollouts and migrations
  • Administration of users: inside and their authorization structures for various applications.
  • Active monitoring of applications
  • Implementation of proactive measures to increase system availability (including evaluation of events and incidents)
  • Creation and maintenance of technical documentation
  • Administration of interfaces, especially to the central ERP system of the DZNE incl. troubleshooting
  • Collaboration in the conception of other applications, especially those based on the server operating system MS-Windows.


  • You have a professional training in computer science and practical experience in IT and support.
  • You are very familiar with the various standard applications.
  • You enjoy dealing with customers and have excellent communication and service skills.
  • You have already gained experience in the areas of user account management and directory services (AD / LDAP), software distribution, networks, telecommunications and in the use of a ticket system.
  • You have a self-reliant, result- and goal-oriented way of working and always present yourself in a professional manner.
  • Distinct ability to work in a team, commitment and enjoyment of active customer contact round off your profile.
  • Willingness for personal development.
  • Good knowledge of English (good knowledge of German is a big plus).
