The group of Dr. Daniele Bano investigates molecular mechanisms underlying age-related neurodegenerative processes, with a focus on understanding how cellular and systemic metabolic dysfunctions contribute to neuronal vulnerability. Building on our previous published studies (https://www.dzne.de/en/research/research-areas/fundamental-research/research-groups/bano/publications/), our research program aims to identify genetic and epigenetic modifiers that influence disease onset and severity. In this regard, current and future projects are centered on metabolism (particularly mitochondrial bioenergetics) and explore how the exposome (environmental and lifestyle factors) can trigger neuronal stress and degeneration during aging. By integrating data across in vitro and in vivo models, we aim to uncover molecular mechanisms that can lead to novel avenues for interventions. Additional details about the different projects and career perspectives will be discussed during the interview.

The full time position is initially limited to two years, with the option of extension.

We are seeking applicants with:

Either prior experience working with the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans:

• Maintenance
• Genetics
• Functional assays
• Microscopy

Or a strong background in proteomics and/or metabolomics, including:

• Experience in experimental design
• Data acquisition
• Data analysis

• Strong communication skills and team player
• Should demonstrate a commitment to meeting deadlines, essential for the success of the studies
