At the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bonn, in collaboration with the Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen e. V. (German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, DZNE), the position of
W2 Professorship for Immune Mechanisms of Neurodegeneration
is to be filled at the earliest opportunity as part of a joint appointment according to the Jülich model.
The candidate (m/f/d) should be proven internationally in the research area concerning the influence of immune cells on neurodegenerative processes using high-resolution single-cell procedures. The focus of research activity should lie on immune cells and the molecular mechanisms that control their differentiation and function in neurodegenerative diseases, especially in the peripheral immune system and in aging processes.
Experience in analyzing peripheral immunity in humans with neurodegenerative diseases and post-infectious complications in the development of biomarkers is required. Expertise in the transcriptional and epigenetic examination of peripheral influences on the programming of immune cells in the brain is also necessary. Candidates should have experience in standardizing single-cell analysis procedures for routine clinical practice with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases and long-standing expertise in flow cytometry, genomics, and single-cell OMICs techniques, as well as in managing a flow cytometry and genomics platform.
Alongside excellent technical expertise and publications, the job holder is expected to have experience in successfully acquiring national and international third-party funding. Experience in teaching and in the scientific supervision of employees, long-standing experience in interdisciplinary collaboration between the fields of medicine, life sciences, and bioinformatics, and a strong willingness to collaborate are required.
Close cooperation with the lmmunoSensation Cluster of Excellence and other research networks, and a connection to the research and clinical focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Bonn, other faculties at the University of Bonn, in particular the Life & Medical Sciences unit, and to non-university institutions is desired. The establishment and filling of the professorship is intended to strengthen the neuroscience and immunology research focus within the faculty (www.medfak.uni-bonn.de/en). The appointment is carried out jointly by the University of Bonn and the DZNE Bonn. The appointee (m/f/d) will be employed with a full professorship in a civil service employment relationship with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and granted leave of absence to the DZNE. The appointment is permanent. The selection is carried out jointly by the DZNE and the University of Bonn.
