Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m) in computational statistics and machine learning for systems biomedicine
The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) investigates the causes of diseases of the nervous system and develops strategies for prevention, treatment and care. It is an institution within the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres with nine sites across Germany (Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten). The DZNE cooperates closely with universities, their clinics and other research facilities.
This position is in the group of Dr. Sach Mukherjee .Our research focus is on advanced statistical and machine learning approaches for precision medicine and systems biology, with a particular emphasis on high-dimensional inference, causality and latent structure. We pursue both cutting-edge methodological research and specific applications in collaboration with biomedical teams.
We are looking for outstanding, highly qualified candidates (f/m) with a PhD in statistics or machine learning (or a closely related discipline). A solid background in statistical and/or machine learning methodology is important. This means a strong background in one or more areas of current computational and high-dimensional research (e.g. penalized likelihood methods, computational Bayesian approaches, deep learning etc.) and a broad overview of core ideas in modern statistics and machine learning. Good skills in statistical computing are important. The position will involve novel methodological work motivated by, and applied to, nontrivial questions in systems biology and medicine. Previous exposure to research in biomedicine per se is not essential but a motivation to help address biomedical problems is important. Knowledge of the German language is not required.
This is a chance to pursue advanced statistical research with opportunities to collaborate side-by-side with outstanding experimental teams at the DZNE and with colleagues at leading institutions internationally.
- An interesting and challenging task in a research center that works on the future topics of health research
- An international environment characterized by a strong focus on science and research.
- The opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
- Targeted personnel development.
- Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the Public Sector Collective Agreement (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst – TVöD Bund).
You will obtain special skills and knowledge for your scientific qualification during your activities at DZNE. The DZNE is an equal opportunity employer. The DZNE especially welcomes and encourages disabled individuals to apply.
