The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a world-leading internationally oriented research center, committed to discovering new approaches to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases. Your tasks

The Clinical Research Group in Bonn has a main focus on identifying imaging biomarker in neurodegenerative in ataxia disorders. This is realized in close relation with the MR Physics group in Bonn, which develops MRI acquisition methods to probe manifestations of neurodegenerative diseases non-invasively with high sensitivity and resolution. To this end, we are seeking an interactive and self-motivated scientist to develop and elaborate analyses methods for 7 Telsa MRI. The position is part of the JPND-project SCAIFIELD, which involves four partners from three countries (Belgium, Norway, and Germany). Specifically in Bonn, a PostDoc from the MR Physics group, focusing on sequence development,  and the PhD/Dr. rer. nat. candidate, focusing on establishing evaluation methods, will work closely together. The goal of the project is to establish quantitative 7 Tesla MRI biomarkers for spinocerebellar ataxias with high potential for detecting early disease manifestation and monitoring progression. Specifically, this position will focus on the development of molecular imaging methods (CEST & MRSI) tailored for applications in the cerebellum and brainstem. The successful candidate will be working in a highly interdisciplinary team, closely interacting with the project partners. The position is based within the DZNE MRI Facilities in Bonn (Venusberg Campus).



Successful candidates should hold a master in physics, neuroscience, computer science, bioinformatics or related disciplines. As a prerequisite, the candidate should have experience with MRI sequence analysis. Good programming skills in C++, Python, and/or Matlab are expected. Creative, highly motivated applicants who are willing to develop new MR imaging techniques and enjoy teamwork and working independently in a stimulating scientific environment are encouraged to apply.
