Computer scientist (f/m/d) with focus on Network and Security

The DZNE operates a central IT located in Bonn, which provides the central network, server and storage infrastructure, and services for the entire research center distributed across 10 locations, supporting the work of scientists and administration. In the IT department, we are looking to strengthen the Network and Security team by recruiting a computer scientist with focus on network and security.


Your tasks

  • Conception, implementation to operation of the DZNE data network (WAN and LAN)
  • Monitoring the IT network infrastructure, performing fault analysis, troubleshooting and developing strategies for service improvement
  • Creating and maintaining network documentation
  • Keeping up to date and evaluating emerging cyber security threats and ways to manage them
  • Identifying threats and developing appropriate protection measures
  • Help define and implement institute-wide IT security policy, strategies and standards
  • Plan for disaster recovery and create contingency plans in the event of a security breach
  • Collaborate with the data protection office for classification and timely reaction in the event of a security breach
  • With your experience, you will be responsible for projects in the area of security and network infrastructure and coordinate external partners

Requirements

  • Successfully completed studies (Dipl.-Inf. (FH), Dipl.-Ing. (FH), B. Sc.) or relevant vocational training (IT specialist or IT systems electronics technician, etc.) in an IT-related subject  
  • Extensive knowledge of cyber-security concepts and technical know-how of security network devices and other security hardware and software tools
  • 3+ years professional experience and extensive knowledge especially in the areas of TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP, WLAN, VPN, Security, Cisco components, Checkpoint, Nagios and VMware
  • High level of responsibility, initiative and ability to work in a team
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communications skills, and collaborative approach
  • Solution orientation
  • Certifications (CCNA or CCNP) and knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager are desirable
